Body Composition Scan

Your scan, using the latest Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology, examines the various components of your body including fat levels, body water, muscle mass and bone mineral mass. Your body composition scan is performed by sending a safe electrical signal through your body via pressure-contact electrodes to help you understand your body composition.

Body Composition Scan

Your non-invasive body scan examines your fat levels, hydration, muscle and bone mineral mass, giving you a good overview of your body composition.

This test is only available as part of a package.

Body Composition Scan

Your scan, using the latest Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology, examines the various components of your body, including fat levels, body water, muscle and bone mineral mass, giving you a good indication of your body composition.

You’ll receive a breakdown of the percentages and weights of the various components of your body: body water, body fat, visceral fat, muscle mass, bone mass, basal metabolic rate, body mass index and metabolic age.

Lots of people use BMI (Body Mass Index) as an indicator of how ‘in-shape’ they are.  Although BMI is a good overall tool, a body composition scan which breaks your body down into percentages of components including visceral (abdominal) fat, body fat, water, bone and muscle mass will give you a far better understanding of your overall health and any areas for concern.  Maintaining a healthy body weight, body fat and muscle mass decreases your risk of developing various health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, digestive diseases, diabetes and certain types of cancer.

All our tests have been specially designed to be convenient and non-invasive. Once you’ve booked your appointment, full preparation instructions will be provided in your confirmation email or letter. You can continue to eat and drink normally before your appointment, and you’ll also remain fully clothed throughout.

Which readings are included?

Around 45%-65% of the weight of a healthy person is water. Your body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulate its temperature and maintain other bodily functions.
We all need some body fat to be healthy but too much or too little fat can damage your health and could put you at greater risk of becoming ill.
Otherwise known as abdominal fat, this is the fat which surrounds your vital organs, including your liver, kidneys and pancreas, in the trunk/stomach area of your body. Even if you are slim elsewhere, high visceral fat can seriously increase your risk of serious disease.
Your muscles act as the body’s engine in consuming energy (calories). Muscles burn more calories than fat, so generally speaking the higher your muscle mass, the higher your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).
This indicates an estimated weight of bone mineral mass, although it is not intended as a substitute for more detailed assessments of body density.
Your BMR is the number of calories your body requires to function normally at rest – it’s useful to know if you’re interested in weight loss, gain, or management. Your BMI is a calculation based on your height and weight which is used to estimate the amount of tissue mass (muscle, fat, and bone) in your body. This calculation can help determine whether you are at a healthy weight for your height (although this reading may be skewed if you are very muscular, so you should take your muscle mass and visceral fat readings into consideration when you receive your BMI result).
This reading gives an estimated metabolic age as associated with your BMR. If your metabolic age is higher than your actual age it’s an indication that you need to improve your metabolic rate. Increasing your exercise levels and building muscle tissue can help improve this.
