People with an irregular heartbeat (Atrial Fibrillation) are 5 times more likely to suffer a stroke than those without, as the condition increases your risk of blood clots. So it’s important to find out if you do have the condition so you can get the right treatment to control it and reduce your risk of stroke.
Although an irregular heartbeat is very common (and often treatable), it frequently goes by undiagnosed as it can present very few symptoms. People who do have symptoms may notice palpitations (being very aware of their heartbeat), extreme tiredness, shortness of breath or dizziness. If you’re over 50 or have high blood pressure, your risk of having an irregular heartbeat is increased. At the minimum, we recommend undertaking an ECG together with a Peripheral Arterial Disease test to give you a fuller picture of your cardiovascular health and stroke risk.
All our tests have been specially designed to be convenient and non-invasive. Once you’ve booked your appointment, full preparation instructions will be provided in your confirmation email or letter. You can continue to eat and drink normally before your appointment, and you’ll also remain fully clothed throughout.
