Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori)
Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) is a very common bacterial infection which damages the protective lining of your stomach and small intestine, causing open sores which can develop into ulcers. As well as being a cause of peptic ulcers (about 10% of people with H. Pylori will develop an ulcer), it’s also a strong risk factor for certain types of stomach cancer. Latest stats from Cancer Research UK show that more than 40% of stomach cancer cases in the UK are caused by H. Pylori. The good news is that once it’s been identified, a H. Pylori infection can easily be treated with antibiotics.
