Omega 3 and 6
In the right ratios, both are essential for keeping your body in good health. However, in modern Western diets we usually have too much omega 6 and too little omega 3. This imbalance can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
Doctor Cullimore says “Since your body can’t produce omega 3 or 6 by itself, it’s important that you eat a balanced diet to ensure you’re getting the right amounts of each. Typically, Western diets don’t contain enough omega 3 and contain far too much omega 6. Whilst this may not appear to be much of a problem, this imbalance actually increases your risk of a multitude of conditions including type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer, autoimmune diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS and cardiovascular disease. But with the right balance of omega 3 and 6, your skin can appear younger and conditions such as dry skin, eczema and psoriasis may improve; your ability to concentrate and feel in control of moods can be enhanced, and there is also evidence to suggest that these oils protect the heart and make joints more supple.”
